Located only 7kms from the friendly township of Taumarunui, down the incredible Forgotten World Highway, lies Omaka Lodge, a boutique bed & breakfast in the heart of New Zealand’s Forgotten World.  The short drive from town follows the Whanganui River and is a beautiful scenic journey at any time of the year.  At the end of a tree-lined sealed driveway, you’ll find Omaka Lodge and its mature gardens.  Well positioned on the crest of a hill, with magnificent views of Herlihy’s Bluff and Mount Hikurangi, and a glimpse of Mount Ruapehu, this beautiful country property offers total privacy, peace and seclusion.

Omaka Lodge offers three beautifully appointed queen bedrooms, all ensuite and each with its own character and views across the surrounding countryside.  Two additional bedrooms sharing a private bathroom may be available by request.  Guests enjoy a relaxed bed & breakfast experience, with a delicious homemade continental breakfast included, and dinner available by prior arrangement.

For those seeking a little more independence and space, The Gardener’s Folly is a separate, luxurious two-bedroom self-contained guest residence, offering a bespoke country retreat in its own private setting.  Together, Omaka Lodge and The Gardener’s Folly provide a choice of accommodation for couples, families, friends and small groups.

Situated amidst working farmland, the Lodge and its grounds are surrounded by the sights and sounds of everyday country life, where sheep and cattle dot the rolling green-pastured hills and valleys that echo to the melodious sound of never-ending birdsong.  The property is set amongst more than 10 acres of picturesque grounds, including the magnificent Omaka Gardens, and guests are welcome to explore the gardens, relax by the swimming pool, play tennis or croquet, or simply find a quiet spot to enjoy the peace and views.

The 3+ acre Omaka Gardens are rated a 5-Star Garden of National Significance, and are open to visitors by appointment, with guided garden tours and group visits available.  The gardens and beautiful new Orangerie also provide a memorable setting for small celebrations, lunches, weddings and private events.

There are so many ways to explore and enjoy New Zealand’s Forgotten World: drive the unforgettable Forgotten World Highway; hop on a Forgotten World RailCart and experience the hidden countryside by rail; or boat, canoe or kayak down the Whanganui River to the iconic Bridge to Nowhere.  If adventure tourism is your thing, there are cycling, walking and hiking trails within easy reach, not to mention the mountains of Tongariro National Park and its world-class ski fields.
