Perched overlooking the Tasman Sea on the Great Coast Road, just 14km north of Greymouth and 30km south of Punakaiki, Breakers offers a peaceful coastal escape with uninterrupted sea views. Set on two acres of native bush and landscaped gardens, Breakers has its own private track to secluded Nine Mile Beach below. Take a walk along the beach, discover the waterfall, fossick in the rock pools or meander amongst the stones and driftwood. If you’re lucky, you may even find your own piece of pounamu (New Zealand jade) washed up on the beach.
With fabulous sea views from every guest room, sit back and take in the ever-changing landscape. Enjoy the view from the comfort of your room or step outside onto your private balcony or deck. At the end of the day, watch the sun sink over the Tasman Sea and enjoy some truly spectacular West Coast sunsets before being lulled to sleep by the sound of the breaking waves. Each room has its own private ensuite bathroom and comfortable indoor seating, creating your own space to relax and unwind.
Your hosts, Jan and Stephen, love welcoming guests from around the world to their wee slice of paradise. They enjoy getting out and exploring the region and sharing their extensive local knowledge, tips and favourite places, whether you’re planning your time at Breakers, wondering where to stop along the way, or deciding where your South Island journey takes you next.
Two friendly dogs also call Breakers home and are always happy to provide a holiday dog fix for those who want one. They have their own area, so guests can choose whether or not to include a little dog time as part of their Breakers experience.
Start your day around the communal breakfast table in the main house and soak in more of those wonderful Tasman Sea views. Enjoy freshly brewed coffee or tea and choose from our small menu featuring fresh free-range eggs, local bacon and New Zealand smoked salmon, along with guest favourites such as homemade pancakes and Breakers Eggs Benedict.
After your day of exploration, settle in for the evening and make the most of Breakers’ beachfront location and sea views. With advance notice, we can prepare a homemade pizza for you to enjoy in your room or on your private balcony or deck, so you can relax, watch the setting sun and enjoy the peace and tranquillity without having to head out again.
