East Coast / Hawke's Bay

Napier

  • House of Pania BnB
    48 Lighthouse Road, Napier
High on the Napier Bluff, the House of Pania BnB is nestled in a large coastal garden with unimpeded sea and port views. The house is named after the Maori mermaid, Pania, with her reef being best seen from the clifftop at low tide. Opening out to an inground pool the suite has been carefully decorated with just a little magic in mind. Enjoy the shuttered Kit Kemp-inspired bedroom or the coastal vibe of the tongue and groove room with a view over the pool and out to sea. Take a swim or choose a book from the 800 book library and sink into a bathtub or sun lounger for some well-earned me-time. The details Breakfast at Pania Pania is a sleep-in kind of place so feel free to request your breakfast at a time that suits you, if you are an early bird and want to eat with the sunrise that's fine too. Bathing at Pania The inground swimming pool(seasonal) is for your exclusive use - check out the weir's handmade tiles depicting reef life. Also available is an outdoor bath especially positioned in the upper garden among grape and passionfruit vines and citrus fruit trees. From there you can view the Pacific Ocean and pick lavender to drop into your water. In the evening relax and listen out for the ruru's hoot. Getting to and from Pania If you are driving there is plenty of parking and free EV charging. Airport shuttles and taxis are available and current Uber prices are approximately $26 Pania to the airport and $10 Pania to Napier's Art Deco City Centre. Nearby attractions Bluff Hill Lookout and Sturm's Gully Next door is a Napier must-see, the Bluff Hill Lookout with port and big sea views of Hawke's Bay. From there take a walking track down through Sturm's Gully to the funky seaside village of Ahuriri where you will find a marina, fishing boats, small swimming beaches, cafes, restaurants, shops, and a tiny cinema with big comfy leather seats serving pizza, wine and coffee. Napier Art Deco City Centre Otherwise, head down to the city centre and admire the art deco architecture and beachfront. Check out the shops, art galleries and cafes, restaurants and bars. Call in at the Art Deco Centre to sign up for a tour or pick up a DIY guide and don't miss the MTG museum across the street which has an excellent 1931 Earthquake exhibition plus Taonga Maori and 20th Century fine arts and painting collections. Walk along the seafront from Ocean Spa to the aquarium with 1500 fish, birds and animals to view. Along the way, enjoy the oceanfront viewing platform, the Art Deco sound shell, sunken gardens and more. Meet the host Hi, I'm Jeannie your host. I have lived at the House of Pania for decades and love it here. My family are 5th generation Lighthouse Road dwellers so please feel free to ask questions about Art Deco Napier and the local area.
